HOW NOT TO EVANGELIZE CATHOLICS?
How Not To Evangelize Catholics?
Samuel Machado
In this 21st century, we live amidst the concrete walls of innumerable denominations and deductions on them.
What we often fail to see is; there is a thin line in erring the way we interpret the sectarians and distancing them.
This also applies to the folks who hold onto various religious beliefs and their opinions on Christendom.
Church, We are called to be wise, watchful and thankful. Col 4:2,4
And top of that is, to be wise in using opportunities to share the Gospel of Christ through our good lives and deeds. Matt 5:13
How often we see such evangelicals with the nature and attitude of Christ today?
It’s pretty rare. The lost are not looking for bible bashers and Mary mockers. They want love manifested and Christ personified.
The creation is craving for the sons to be revealed in the fullness of His Glory. And as they see the glory they will long to have it.
And from our side, we need to take careful attention if we want to see the fellow unsaved Christians to know Christ first.
The topic carries the term; “Catholics” but it also applies to all the other traditionalists too.
What Not To Do (Only the Major ones):
1. Don’t look at them with those judgmental eyes for their ways and practices J.
2. Never try to prove that your Christianity is right and they are erred. Especially don’t do the Bible bashing.
3. Ensure that you don’t touch their sensitive zones.
Like Mother Mary and the Papal stuffs.
4. Correction on Rosary usage or Adoration on the first-go is a fist with fury for a devout Catholic.
Never do that friend.
5. Don’t intimidate them by asking them to wear white dresses and to cordon off their jewelry. This alienates them from their own and immediate family. (Dear Pentecostals! It’s time for you to grow).
6. Intervening into their religious rights like Shrine Visitations or their vows will be a guilt ride. Allow them and don’t pull the trigger. It won’t make them Christians either.
7. Don’t touch their pride on the ancestral Church mentality.
That’s a strong lie from the devil.
What To Do:
Did you really take time to know them?.
You have to do that to begin your walk with a Catholic friend.
Catholics are not pagans as the Pentecostals strongly assume. They have an awareness of the Cross and Christ but not in the Spirit.
Catholics like the other religious units try to achieve their piety in the “Seven Stages”.
They practice the traditions handed over to them ancestrally and have no clue on the Word of God and its essence or purpose.
But there is a way to reach a Catholic. It’s the Power of Christ love and prayer in His Spirit that paves the path.
1. Learn to treat them as patients who need cure as we do with the other sects.
2. Befriend them and develop the relationship in His Grace. It’s a Steady process.
3. As you continue to pray for them; you will see the changes coming.
4. Pray with them and bless as much as you can. They often look for prayers from saints J.
5. Learn to answer wisely when they question on Mother Mary and the Saints.
6. Appreciate their cravings for the poor and needy.
7. Above all let our lives and speech be filled with grace.
There are 1.2 billion Catholics on the planet and they need Christ too.
With our Lord all things are possible. Luke 1:37
I myself a Catholic was saved by a Vision of Christ and not by the Pentecostal bashings.
Please tune your views to reach the Catholics for Christ. God Bless!
Shalom,
Sam Mac
